Acer Aspire AS8735G-6502: Perfect for the Mobile Gamer
If you’re scouting for a laptop with enough power to play today’s games, enough battery strength to last 2-3 hours, and a large LCD consider the Acer Aspire AS8735G-6502. This quality laptop was built for the mobile gamer in mind! It comes with 2.2Ghz of CPU power, 4GB DDR3 RAM, and a 500GB SATA Hard Drive. The 18.4″ Widescreen LCD screen delivers excellent clarity for games and movies. From a graphics perspective, the NVIDIA Geforce CT 240M Video card packs mid to high level of gaming performance. The AS8735G-6502 comes with a DVD Super Multi Optical Drive, 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N wireless, 8-cell Li-ion Battery, and Windows 7 64 Bit. The machine weighs in just over 9 pounds.
Newegg has the AS8735G-6502 on sale for $799.99 this week.
User Summaries
The AS8735G-6502 currently has 36 reviews with a 4 egg overall rating. According to these user reviews the NVIDIA Geforce GT 240M Video card runs great. This Geforce GT is powerful enough to run World of Warcraft, Metal of Honor, an Eve Online with all settings turned to max. Battery life ranges from about 2.5 to 4 hours (depending on system use). From a negative perspective: the track pad is average and can be difficult to use; the sound card needs to have its drivers updated for everything to work right. You’ll also have to uninstall about 44 pieces of bloatware but doing so will dramatically speed up the system.
Here’s a couple recent user opinions:
• “HUGE screen with great clarity. GF240 is good and fast. Runs L4D2 and WoW GREAT. Nice feature set. Touch reactive buttons work well. FULL keyboard with good size keys unless you have ham hands.
Did I mention that the video runs great? This is the perfect machine for a gamer who wants a mobile device that can run modern titles at decent framerates. Heat isn’t too bad on my lap. It does get just a bit warm, but not to the point of discomfort. Touch pad has multi-gesture support. It also stops input while you are pushing keys to prevent wrist activation while you’re typing.”
• “Excellent Value, even at the non-sale price. Excellent graphics chipset (coming from a integrated Radeon HD 3300). Screen is huuuge. Speakers actually sound decent (once you fix the buzzing by updating the drivers from the Acer site.”
• “Good performance, sleek exterior, very large/bright screen, almost silent. Nifty touch volume control and full numeric pad are nice. Cool power button. Windows 7 is a very nice OS, with more functionality than Vista. Large screen is great for all games/movies.”
• “For the most part, this is the most fun computer I’ve ever owned. It’s fast, feature rich, and beautiful. The NIVIDIA GeForce GT240M eats my fairly graphic intensive games such as Metal of Honor for lunch with all settings turned to the max. You won’t want to use this for lugging on the road, however, because it’s a brick weighing in at nearly 10 lbs.”
