Apple Sells 1 Million iPads; Future 4G iPhone Debacle
I have a 30 minute commute to work. While driving to and fro I often listen to NPR. One of my favorite is their All Tech Considered show that’s on the air 7:30am on Mondays. I just heard this NPR article about last weeks Apple News. Apparently as of May 3 Apple has sold a startling One Million iPads! This happened in only the first 28 days! They indicated that now 1 out of 300 Americans own the iPad and are showing it off to their friends. Now Apple’s App store has 12 million apps versus the 1 million they had at the April launch. These stats are incredible. It’s obvious that the iPad is taking off. The wildest thing that struck me is that this data only refers to the WiFi versions of the iPad; the 3G version was just released this past Friday.
The other Apple News is about their upcoming 4G iPhone. The story goes that an Apple engineer took the 4G prototype to a bar, left it there, someone found it and sold it to Gizmodo blogger Jason Chena. For those of you who don’t know, Gizmodo is one of the most popular tech blogs. Anywho, this blogger Jason Chen of course wrote a full review of this future 4G iPhone and published it on their site. Everyone went wild about this article! Soon afterwards Steve Jobs (Apple CEO) called Jason and asked for the phone back. Jason complied. Here’s where the story gets crazy. Next thing Jason knew, San Mateo County sheriffs were busting down his door, confiscating his computers and gadgets. I can’t believe that even after giving the prototype back the feds bust into his home and confiscate 4 computers and a server. This was all at Apple’s request.
This Apple raid upset many Apple devotees including The Daily Show’s” Jon Stewart. John asked on the show “If you want to break down someone’s door, why don’t you start with AT&T. For god sakes, they make your amazing phone unusable as a phone.” Hilarious!
The real question is who’s in the wrong here? Is it the Gizmodo reporter who bought (what he thought was) a legit phone, the engineer who thoughtlessly left the prototype at the bar, or Apple for pushing the feds? Maybe all three are wrong. One thing’s for sure – a lot of Apple fan boys aren’t happy with Apple’s gestapo techniques.

The new iPhone is a mysterious device because Apple dont give exact details about the new functions. So I think it will give a new hype and the iPhone 4g will be so expensive as the 3G is still today.
I enjoyed reading your blog. I just read that Brits vote iPhone 8th greatest invention. I love my Iphone.
