Gateway SX2800-01 – Fast & Inexpensive for your Home or Office
If you’re scouting for a fast & inexpensive desktop for your home, office, or living room take a close look at the Gateway SX2800-01. The best aspect about this PC is the price for the overall power – for $500 you get an system that has Intel Quad Core (2.33GHz), 4GB RAM (800MHz DDR2), and a respectful 640GB (7,200rpm) Hard drive. The SX2800 is all contained with a slim tower design that’s only 4″ thick. Excellent.
PCMAG says the SX2800’s video card (GMA X4500HD) is a good choice to support high-definition video via the built-in HDMI port. Web HD video playback was smooth and jitter-free thanks to the quad-core processor. The system is quiet, a plus for media PCs. You can add a blue ray driver a later date. See it on Gateway’s website.
The SX2800-01 out performed almost every other system in CNET’s budget retail PC roundup. The iTunes test shows that the SX2800-01 loses a few steps when single-core clock speed matters most, but overall its well-rounded performance allows us to recommend this Gateway to anyone shopping for a budget PC for mainstream tasks.
PCMAG says the SX2800-01 excels at performance, particularly for a $500 system. Its quad-core processor and 4GB of RAM help it get a 48-second score at Windows Media Encoder and 1:39 at PhotoShop CS4. The SX2800-01 even runs our Crysis and World in Conflict 3D gaming tests. This is a system built for photo editing and video hobby work on the cheap. In terms of expandability and performance, the SX2800-01 blows both the Dell Inspiron 537s and HP Slimline s5120f out of the water. While all three systems come with 4GB of memory, only the SX2800-01 allows you to expand to 8GB.
