Here’s a Basic Almost New Desktop for Only $134

If you read by post below you know that you can buy yourself an “almost new” desktop from TigerDirect for about $200. These Certificated Desktops are almost new because they’re “Off-Lease.” That basically means that they’ve been leased to a business for two to three years then turned back in. Buying Recertified means that instead of paying $400 to $600 for a brand new computer you can get the same system for half the cost system.

So if you’re looking to buy yourself one of these budget systems which one should is a good buy?

If all you want to do is sulf the internet and type office documents I recommend this IBM ThinkCentre M50 8187 for $119. It sports a Pentium 4 1.8GHz processor, 512MB of (DDR) RAM, a 40GB hard drive, integrated on-board graphics, and Eight (8) USB ports. It comes with Windows XP Professional and a CD-ROM optical drive.

The full disclosure here is that this is a low end machine. While it would be great is a business environment or for basic home use it truly doesn’t have enough power for anything beyond that. It can surf the net and handle Microsoft office easily. It doesn’t easily do photo editing or multitasking. Looking to the positive side – it does come with the full version of Windows XP Professional operating system. It’s pretty amazing that you can get this whole computer for $199 + shipping when you realize that just the Windows XP operating system by itself costs up to $325 new. That certainly makes it worth it if you’re just looking for the basics.

The IBS ThinkCenter is priced $119 at TigerDirect. Shipping costs anywhere from $15 to $20 for 3 Day US Ground. Cost jump up to $35 and more for 2nd day air. Would would you do 2nd day air for a $119 priced system? Adding $119 for the desktop + $15 shipping gives me $134. That’s a great price for a basic computer like this.
