Here’s a Mid Range Nettop for $179

Let’s continue to look at TigerDirect’s Certificated Desktops. For those of you who haven’t read my earlier post, I’m taking a close look at these so called recertified desktops that you can buy from TigerDirect for about $100-$300 cheaper than retail prices. These computers have been basically leased to a business for a couple of years and then turned back in. Because of the fact that they’ve been previously owned you can get great deals. Think of buying a certified desktop like buying a used car from an original owner. The original owner pays the upfront full cost; you only pay a fraction of the cost for an almost new car. In today’s economy everybody is always looking to save their previous money.

You can get great deals from TigerDirect if you know what to look for. The previous system we looked at was a low end IBM for really simple and basic use. Which should you look for if you want something newer that has more power?

Glad you asked. How ’bout a tiny desktop for $179?

The Acer Aspire Revo AR1600-U910H is actually a Nettop. Nettops are a small and thin desktop computers that are designed for basic tasks like cruising the Internet, social networking, viewing photos, downloading music, and watching videos. The AR1600-U910H will actually do all of these things and it’s the same size as the palm of your hand.

It comes with 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, a 1.6GHz Intel (Atom) processor, and a NVIDIA ION video card. It’s HDMI video port allows you to hook this system up to your Flat Panel TV and watch Youtube Hulu, Netflix. CNET’s explains in their video review below that the machine will handle standard def videos from the web sites easily. However, the AR1600-U910H is not powerful enough to play high def videos from the internet.

You’ll need to plug in the internet cable to the back of the AR1600-U910H; it doesn’t have wireless internet. It’s got Six USB ports, a Media Card Reader, and wired keyboard and mouse. The system brand new costs from $199 on up. It’s $179 + shipping at TigerDirect. Ground shipping will cost from $17 on up.
