What do you want to use your laptop for? If you’re into gaming then be prepared to invest in a $1,800 system that can handle the high end graphics today’s games demand. Those who’re attracted to the emerging world of high def movies will need to pursue a system with multiple CPU cores that can play content without skipping. If you’re looking for a laptop for business or everyday home use most PC’s on the market will suffice.

Gaming >If hard core 3-D gaming gets your blood rushing you’ll need a Gaming Laptop. Gaming laptops have all kinds of high end powerful components. You’ll need is a fast multi-core processor (CPU), dedicated graphics card (GPU), and fast hard drive (either a 7200rpm and SSD Drive). Be absolutely sure you get a laptop with a dedicated ATI or Nvidia graphics card. Systems with onboard (or integrated) video cards aren’t powerful enough for modern 3D games. Gaming Laptops costs $1000 to $2000.
Entertainment > Laptops designed for entertaining guest are called Entertainment (or Multimedia) Laptops. Be sure yours has a Blue Ray Drive so you can plug it right into your HDTV and watch movies! Look for systems with a multi-core processor and dedicated graphics card or you’ll be watching movies that skip. Stay away from laptops with onboard or integrated video cards; they’re not powerful enough. Entertainment Laptops cost between $700 and $1500.
Business > If you’re looking a for a study laptop office use you’ll need a Business Laptop. It should be lightweight, have long battery life, and be durable. Lightweight laptops weigh between two and four pounds and can carried everywhere. It should have a 8 hour battery life for all day computing. Durability is important since they take regular abuse. Most of today’s business laptops are called Ultra Thin or Thin and Light and have at least a 4 hour battery life. You’ll spend $500-$1500 for a business laptop.
Basic > If all you’re looking for is a laptop that handles everyday computing you’ll need a Basic Laptop. These laptops can surf the internet, use Microsoft Office, check email, and watch videos. They don’t have enough power to play 3-D games, do much multitasking, or watch Blue Ray (High Def) movies. Battery life usually ranges between 3 and 9 hours. Basic laptops can be brought home for $350-$800.
