How to Get Awesome Wallpapers for Free
Every day millions of us turn on our computers, look at their desktop wallpaper briefly, and then get to work. Sadly enough, many of us don’t make the time or effort to change our desktop wallpaper. Over and over again computers boot up with the same wallpaper every time. Sometimes months or even years go by before this wallpaper image is changed.
That’s a tragedy. Personally, I’ve found that I look at the same wallpaper image for more than 30 minutes I get bored.
A world of beautiful images beckons us. Gloriously beautiful beaches, crystal blue oceans stretching from horizon to horizon, sun drenched vineyards waving against stark green savannas in the background. Guess what? We can access this world of images, easily download them our desktops, and enjoy this beauty for free. Read the rest of this entry »
What To Do If Windows 7 Won’t Boot
Question from Yahoo Answers
Yesterday I was listening to music and writing a paper when my laptop just shut off. The battery was fully charged and there wasn’t any viruses. I waited a few minutes and turned it back on. Windows loaded a blue screen and asked if any new software had been installed. It repeated this loop for a while; I finally gave up and turned it off. The next day I tried turning it on. It turned on ok but the screen is blank. Please help. Read the rest of this entry »
Expand Your World With a Dual Monitor Setup
What if I could suggest an idea to you that would vastly improve your computing experience, save you hours of wasted time, and make you more efficient that you’ve ever been? What I’m about to suggest isn’t a computer upgrade, it’s an experience upgrade! It’s an experience so amazing that it will open up your world in ways you never believed possible. No, it’s going to cost you an arm and a leg, only about $170. Here’s my suggestion: hook up a second monitor to your computer.
Sounds simple right? I’m sure you’ve seen these so-called “dual monitor setups” in movies, at parties, or maybe a friend’s house. Until recently, the idea of having two LCD’s on the same computer was only reserved for the ultimate uber-geeks totally obsessed with technology. There’s no doubt that two monitors hooked up to the same computer look beautiful. However, most people still believe they’re just too expensive and impractical. Why would anyone ever want to buy a second monitor? Read the rest of this entry »
Should I buy the Accidental Protection Plan for My New Laptop?
Imagine yourself standing in line at Best Buy to buy new laptop. As you stand there you feel yourself in the “outer body experience” of joy and wonder. You’ve been scrimping and saving for 5 months! You are actually holding the brand new unopened box in your hands! You can’t wait to take it home, boot it up, and play with it. Your thoughts of bliss screech are interrupted by the teenage cashier who mindlessly asks “Do you want to the protection plan for this laptop? It’s $199.”
One Hundred Ninety Nine Dollars! That’s like 35% of the total $799 cost! Wow. Is that worth it?
I’ve been asked these questions over and over for the past 10 years. Ah – the protection plan. Every major big box seller has one. Best Buy, Fry’s, Staples, Radio Shack, on and on. Always when you’re in the middle of the purchase some type of sales person interjects one reason or another to buy their plan. Madness. Read the rest of this entry »
Time to Buy Another Hard Drive
Think about all the digital pictures, videos, and documents you have. I just took at look and found that my digital collection includes 7 years of pictures, 3 years of videos, more than 500 music albums, and countless documents. All this data takes up a lot of space – my hard drive is now 2/3 full. It’s definitely time to buy myself another hard drive.
Do you know how full your hard drive is? Do yourself a favor and take a quick look right now. How much data is on it? How much free space do you have? My 250GB hard drive (232 gigs of usable space) has 147 gigs of used space and only 85 gigs of free space. From my experience I’ve found that it’s never good to fill a hard drive more than 2/3 full. Hard drives tend to crash if they’re filled beyond 75%. Read the rest of this entry »
The Most Effective Way to Ebay
Since it was formed in 1995, eBay has taken the internet by storm. From 1995 to 2008 they had grown to an astonishing 7.7 Billion according to this wikipedia article. The greatest thing about of eBay is winning an item at a wholesale price. Who wants to pay $29.99 for this Motorola Droid Verizon Wireless car charger when you can get the same charger for $3.05 at eBay? Most people aren’t aware that retails stores only make about 10% off their high priced electronic items while they make 70-90% off “required” accessories. Best Buy is only making about $50 off the new laptop you just bought while they’re making $200 or more off insurance, travel bags, cords, and software. eBay changed everything by introducing wholesale prices for these accessories and (often) cheaper prices for major electronics. No doubt about it – with the ongoing recession everybody’s into saving money. eBay can certainly help you do it. Read the rest of this entry »
Backup Your Stuff (Save Your Precious Data)
As many of you know – I’ve been repairing computers for the past 17 years. All technology has evolved over the years I’ve continually heard one statement over and over: “Backup your data.” From the old 486 machines, through the Pentium era, onto to today’s quad core systems…I’ve heard this same “Backup your data” statement so often that it’s almost become a mantra. Back up stuff up so if, for some reason or other you loose your data, you can retrieve it from the backup. If you only have one copy of your data don’t risk loosing it – back it up. Yahoo Answers: Getting Rid of Internet Security 2010

Everyone faces the occasional technical problem and without an apparent solution and needs. In the next phase of our evolution we’ve decided to answer popular tech questions on Yahoo Answers and post them here. All those questions will be posted in our Tech Support category for everybody to see and use. Hopefully they will help you in the future if you find yourself in a bind.
How to Remove Internet Security 2010
All of us surf the web every day. While casually perusing around online it’s easily possible to go to a “fringe website” and get infected with a virus or spyware. Internet Security 2010 is one of the worst spyware programs out there. As computer technician who does a fair amount of software repair I see this program often on my clients laptops. I just removed this so I know exactly how to fix it. If you think you’re infected with Internet Security 2010 do the following: Read the rest of this entry »
