This Nettop works as a Great Home Theatre PC

What do you get when you combine the power of a desktop with the thin profile of a laptop? A Nettop. Nettops are a small and thin desktop computers that are designed for basic tasks like internet surfing and audio/video playback. Remember the old days when we use to read hard back books? Imagine taking an old fashioned hard back book and standing it up on its end on your coffee table. That’s how small these machines are! Most people buy Nettops to connect to their TV and use it as a Home Theatre PC (HTPC). Nettops are great watching movies, looking at photos, listening to music, and surfing video sites like Hulu or YouTube.

Acer has a very interesting Nettop called the Aspire AR3610-U9022. This system has dual core Atom processors running at 1.6GHz, 2GB of memory (DDR2 800), and a 160GB (5400RPM SATA) hard drive, and WiFI. It has Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit), a compact wireless keyboard and mouse; a small pair of USB speakers, six USB ports, single ports for Ethernet, HDMI, VGA, eSATA, and SPDIF; and a memory card reader. It’s just over 7″ tall and deep and 1.2″ wide; it only weighs 9.0 pounds. It’s $329 at Newegg.

User Opinions
Buyers from Newegg and Amazon love this machine. The system has a 4 egg Newegg rating with 84 reviews and 4.5 stars on Amazon with 6 reviews. Most people agree that it’s a fully functioning PC with built-in WiFi, free wireless mouse and keyboard that actually work great. One Newegg reviewer said that it runs Windows 7 with multiple programs open with no lag or hiccups. They like how the AR3610-U9022 is small, quiet, and easy to use.  Standard internet video is a breeze; you’ll have to update drivers to play high-definition (1080p content). You’ll need to remove the pre-installed software (bloatware).
