What To Do If Windows 7 Won’t Boot

Question from Yahoo Answers
Yesterday I was listening to music and writing a paper when my laptop just shut off. The battery was fully charged and there wasn’t any viruses. I waited a few minutes and turned it back on. Windows loaded a blue screen and asked if any new software had been installed. It repeated this loop for a while; I finally gave up and turned it off. The next day I tried turning it on. It turned on ok but the screen is blank. Please help.

My Answer
I hate to break it to you but it sounds like your version of Windows is screwed up. The first thing I suggest is to go into Safe Mode and do a System Restore.  Start your system, hit F8 over and over, and select Boot Into Safe Mode.  Windows will take  2-4 minutes to boot into this special Safe Mode. Once there you’ll need to do a system restore by selecting Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. Select a date from about two to three days ago. Windows will now do a system restore from that date. This process will take about 10 minutes.  Everything should work now.

It that doesn’t work try doing Windows Recovery from Safe Mode. Going into Safe Mode again and type Recovery. Here’s a step by step guide. This automatic process takes the pain out of manually reinstalling Windows.

If you’re still stuck you’ll need to manually reinstall Windows. Go into your BIOS and make sure your system first boots from the DVD drive. Start your system, hit F1, F2, F10, ESC (one of those keys will loads your BIOS) and select the Boot Menu. Select boot from your DVD drive first. Now insert your DVD and reboot. The Windows Installation will start. At this point you want to select to install a new version of windows without doing a hard drive format.   While reloading Windows will keep put all your old files into a folder called Windows.old. After Windows reloads you can move all those files into your new Windows folder. Here’s a step by step guide from Microsoft.

Good luck with Everything!
