Yahoo Answers: Getting Rid of Internet Security 2010

It’s strange how technology can both eliminate barriers and bring freedom (through social networks, and the free speech of the blogosphere) as well as bring hindrances and chains (through viruses and spyware  infections). Everyone faces the occasional technical problem and without an apparent solution and needs. In the next phase of our evolution we’ve decided to answer popular tech questions on Yahoo Answers and post them here. All those questions will be posted in our Tech Support category for everybody to see and use. Hopefully they will help you in the future if you find yourself in a bind.

How to Remove Internet Security 2010
All of us surf the web every day. While casually perusing around online it’s easily possible to go to a “fringe website” and get infected with a virus or spyware. Internet Security 2010 is one of the worst spyware programs out there. As computer technician who does a fair amount of software repair I see this program often on my clients laptops. I just removed this so I know exactly how to fix it. If you think you’re infected with Internet Security 2010 do the following:

1. Run rKill to terminate spyware processes. Internet Security 2010 can detect that you’re trying to install AntiSpyware programs and prevent you from installing them. The only way to install anitispyware programs is to first run Rkill. Rkill is a small piece of freeware that’s designed to terminate active malware processes, which in turns allows you to install programs. Just you be sure you probably want to download Rkill from here and run it. rKill will run in the background (takes about 5 minutes), stop all bad processes, and clear to you to proceed to step 2.

2. Install & run Malwarebytes. In my opinion Malwarebytes is one of the best free Antispyware programs out there. Download the free version, install it, let it download updates, click Full System Scan (takes about 1 hour), and click Remove Infections. Run the program again and click remove infections just for good measure. http://www.malwarebytes.org/

3. Next run Spybot Search and Destroy. It’s also free. Install, click search for updates, download updates, click search for problems. This scan will take about 1 hour, click remove problems when it’s done.

Good luck!
